• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence
    • Don't take offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

Welcome… I’m New Here! How to Post a Chapter for Critique

Select this prefix to introduce yourself here!
Hi Sammi.
You go to the Writing Workshop in the Forums.
There you can post your chapter under the heading 'Critique wanted'.
If it's not the first chapter, make sure you give us plenty of context with which to view your work.
And lastly, ask us what feedback you'd like. If it's general, that's fine, but also if you are specifically concerned with flow, or whether your dialogue flows, of if the characters feel real, etc, just let us know.
Good luck. xxx

Hi Sammi

I agree with @RK Capps, so if you haven't already, please, follow that link she posted so you can familiarize yourself with the Litopia way of critiquing.

But most importantly, I recommend giving feedback to others first. You will find that by analysing other people's work, you will look at yours differently. Giving thoughtful crit to others will hone your own sefl-crit skills. And it builds relationships. Others are more inclined to help you if you help them.

Litopia isn't a critique service, it's a 'build relationships' site where the more you put in, the more you'll get out of it. I have learnt a lot here and made good friends this way. Enjoy. I hope you get what you need.

Hi Sammi, and welcome to Litopia.

Good advice from @Barbara @RK Capps, as critiquing and feeding back on the work of others is an invaluable learning experience that in turn informs and improves our own writing. And you will find there plenty of kind and helpful members like @Vagabond Heart ready to reciprocate. and support.

There are many areas where you can get involved in the colony and here's a handy link to help you find your feet.

I hope you really enjoy you're time here.

100% this. If I recall correctly, it used to be a rule that new members crit three before posting their own? Or am I thinking of a different group?

Yes, I understand this is still the case. Not unless the software set-up has been reconfigured.
