• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

Hi! I'm new, and it sounds like this is where I'm supposed to be to introduce myself! My name is Stacy, but I generally go by Daisy online (since I get called that a lot).
I used to write, years ago, then turned my creativity elsewhere. In 2015 I got sucked into fanfiction, and started writing again 3 years ago. I met a great writer/editor who invited me to send her a book idea, and hopefully that will be out in the next couple of years!
I write Southern/Appalachian stories with an urban fantasy spin, and SF. My author's Twitter is @proseyposey. Hope to get to meet a lot of other writers, and learn a bunch, as I'm obviously pretty new to this!

Hi Daisy. Welcome to Litopia. You've come to the right place. There are a fair few fantasy writers from all corners of the world on here, including myself. Look forward to reading some of your work :)

Hi Daisy

Welcome to the Colony! Great to have you on board. Any questions about the site, please message me. I'm one of the Guardians and always happy to help.

Do check out the Colony Notices to familiarize yourself with how the site works – The Prime Directive is the foundation of our ethos. For literary chat and general socializing, Café Life is THE place to be. We also have a Flash Club to stretch your writing muscles, and a poetry area, plus much more.

So get stuck in. You'll see that the more you put in, the more you get out. You'll learn a lot here.

Hi Daisy and welcome! Great news about your book idea – I hope that comes to fruition. There are lots of fantasy writers here – me included.

Once you get to know the place you can check out the Workshops too. Remember, don't be shy about offering your own critiques of others' work. Your opinions as a reader are as valid and important as anyone else's. As many members will testify, we learn a lot from critiquing others' work, too. And you can always submit the first 700 words of your own work to Pop-Ups. I look forward to seeing you around the Colony! :)

Thanks! A year ago I had no idea there were so many different kinds of fantasy, so this should be really interesting!

Hi! And thank you! I haven't tried on my computer, but every time I try clicking on the prime directive link (from any source) it tells me it can't be found? So far the other links have worked. And I've already written for the flash competition. I can't resist a good prompt!

Hmmm, that link must be broken. Let me check with @AgentPete

I like mixing things up, @DaisyG and I like writing for different age groups and genres. So one is straight 8-12 historical, another is YA urban fantasy mixed with ancient witchery and another is an ambitious fantasy trying to weave many different threads together. At the moment, my witches are having a sabbatical :) and I'm concentrating on the first and third ideas. Hopefully, I'll finish one of them soon. :D

I never really got into fan fiction, but it seems very popular.

Hi @DaisyG

A warm welcome to Litopia.

In the coming days you'll receive daily messages telling more about the Colony and its many forums, but for now just browse around and feel free to get involved.

Litopia is a friendly and supportive community and we have lots of people happy to give and receive advice on works in progress. You'll get the most from the Colony with a two-way exchange and you'll be pleasantly surprised at how beneficial offering critiques on the works of others is for your own work.

Here's a great place to start and help you find some of the things you might like to get involved with. How-to Guide

If there's anything you're unsure about please drop me a message and I'll be happy to help.

Welcome aboard, Daisy!

Do come and subscribe to Pop-Up Submissions, so you never miss the chance to find out how agents and publishers think when they're reading our first pages... Maybe see you in the chat room on Sunday? :)

Looking forward to seeing you around the colony!
