Hi all,

Just wanted to say hello and offer a brief introduction. I'm Adam and I hail from Shropshire, or The Shire as we Salopians like to call it (The county used to be known as Salop). I have had a go at writing my true life memoir, and also had the nerve wracking privilege of having it featured as part of Pop Ups on 30th May.

Having had some very honest and also very encouraging feedback from the team on Pop Ups, I have decided to join in on Litopia with the hope of involving myself with the regular Huddles, and in the process gaining more feedback and useful help with my manuscript - with the ultimate aim of getting it published and out there!

I am a family man with a wife and two young sons. I used to work as a paramedic, until my own personal trauma and PTSD put an end to my Ambulance career. My memoir is based around this and I would like to think it may also be a helpful read to anyone who has also been through or is going through, a trauma of their own.

I also love to keep fit, and in the past ran my own Personal Training business. I'm not into the bodybuilding type of training though, more running and hill walking. I run mainly to keep the beer off these days, but used to be a bit more competitive and actually managed to win a couple of trail half marathons when I was at my peak. I love a nice curry and a few nice real ales, and spend as much of my time as possible in the 'great outdoors'.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to being more involved over the coming weeks.

Hi Adam! I'm new here too, but I heard your submission on pop-ups and really liked it. Look forward to reading more of your story!

Welcome, Adam. I'm sure you'll fit right in, especially with the offer of a beer!

Ah, thanks Izzy. That is very kind of you to say and amazing that you remembered it from back in May too! Would certainly be lovely to share more of it with you and maybe get your considered critique of it too if you had time.

Definitely - I'll keep an eye out for it in Workshops. I'm here as an aspiring novelist but I'm a non-fiction ghost-writer by trade, so hopefully I can be useful for a project like yours!

Hey there,
Welcome!
Sorry, I missed your submission. I know that lovely Litopian, R.K.Capps, published a memoir of her dramatic medical crisis (it is very good, by the way) some years ago, but I don't know of any other memoir writers here (apart from me and RK). I am sure there must be lots, and this being Litopia there will be dozens of people more than willing to help you if you need it.

Hi Rachel

Thanks so much for your message. Am I correct in reading you too have written/are writing a memoir? May I ask more about this please?

Adam
I just self-published it with Amazon KDP at the beginning of May. It is selling steadily, but I'm not going to become rich any time soon. (Unless Netflix buys it, as many readers have suggested). My worst nightmare is marketing, but even with a traditional publisher, I would have to do that too. It is getting some great reviews, however, (sound of cheering), which is gratifying. One of my favorite reviewers put it between Durrell's My Family and Other Animals and Mayle's A Year in Provence on her bookshelf. While I see it more like A Year in the Merde by Stephen Clarke. Only one woman seemed to think we should all be in therapy o_O If you are interested, it is called Blown Out of Proportion - Misadventures of a Glassblower in France Available on Amazon: Amazon product ASIN 2956985639
