• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Hi, I'm Augusta. I'm an American author living in Spain with my mother, who retired a couple years ago. I've written four novels, none of them yet published, and I'm soon planning on starting my draft for the fifth. I love to write about all things magical, young women and their relationships, LGBTQ+ characters, and kids who have no idea what the hell they're doing. Since moving, my mom and I have been writing wonderful stories together, (and by that I mean separate stories, just writing in the same room. We've yet to be able to work on the same story without trying to kill each other.<3)

I'm planning on traditional publishing once I am (finally) satisfied with my edits on my first novel. On Litopia, I'd like to both learn and help others learn about both the craft of writing, plotting, and building characters, as well as what comes after—getting people to actually read your book. I'm excited to meet other writers and help each other out!

Hi Augusta! Crazy... I know of a mom and her daughter who live in Spain with a similar story as you have! What an awesome experience. Glad to see you here :)

Hi Augusta! Sounds like you write some interesting stories, especially the ones about kids who have no idea what they're doing. Is your mom joining, too? Looking forward to seeing some of those four novels and your WIP. ...

Hi @Augusta O – Welcome!
Your stories sound interesting, especially about kids who don't know what the hell they're doing. I've been one of those :) I'm sure you'll find lots of like-minded writers here on Litopia. Once you get to know the place and feel comfortable about sharing your work or critiquing others, you could check out the Workshops.

You can also submit the first 700 words of your own work to Pop-Ups if you'd like some advice on the beginning. That's on YouTube, Sunday evenings from 5pm (UK time) and 6pm Spanish time – but the beauty of YouTube is you can catch up with it any time. There's excellent advice every week on writing and publishing in general.

I'm one of the Guardians on Litopia. If you have any questions, please get in touch — happy to help any time. Look forward to seeing you around the Colony! :)

Hi Augusta! Your brief bio already sounds interesting and I bet your stories are even more so. I'm fairly new here myself but am so glad I joined, it's all tremendously supportive. Welcome :)

Hi @Augusta O

Nice to see you and hope you enjoy what Litopia has to offer.

It’s extremely friendly round here so do feel free to get involved as soon as you’re ready.

Here's a good place to check out (How-to guide)to see a lot of what goes on in the colony.

If anything is unclear do please contact me and I’ll be happy to assist if I can.
