• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Hi, I'm Brian, currently living in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, deep in the heart of Amish Country. For the most part, I write about food and travel. I've also had a solid career as a commercial photographer and have at least partially illustrated all nine of my published books. I come to Litopia after a failed attempt at retirement. I've returned to photography and writing and I'm hoping to expand from recipes and guidebook entries to memoir and food narratives.

This is the second time I've joined Litopia, the first was at least ten or twelve years ago and I doubt I have any record of it stashed away. If anybody remembers me, fantastic! Otherwise, it's great to be among writers again and thank you for letting me in again.

Are there other food writers here? Any other Pennsylvanians?

Hi Vagabond, do you do food writing too? What are you working on?
Oh I wish.
Nope.
Just like good food.
Am working on a memoir tho.
Spent 3 years travelling Europe in a cranky RV, and did everything wrong. So…. memoir is possibly the wrong word: cautionary tale is probably closer.
Learnt to cook fab stuff on two gas rings and an oven the size of an atom, with a temperature range about the same as the surface of the sun. So that’s good.

Hi @BYarvin

Welcome and hope you enjoy what Litopia has to offer.

It’s extremely friendly round here so do feel free to get involved as soon as you’re ready.

Here's a good place to check out (How-to guide)to see a lot of what goes on in the colony.

If anything is unclear please contact me and I’ll be happy to assist if I can.

Oh, and food did you say? I like food a lot. Eating more so than writing about it, though. :)

Welcome. We look forward to seeing your writing. Cool perspective. i did a couple food writing pieces, but very much back in the day (my former gig was more terrorism than, uhm , food word with a T. Tater tots? anyway, welcome.
My sister, with my nephews and brother-in-law, now lives in Penn, so I visit at least once a year, but rarely get out of the Pittsburgh area.

Thank you very much Matt. I am taking my time and slowly settling in. I wouldn't worry about leaving the Pittsburgh area. It's a great place with a huge amount to do.

Welcome! Looking forward to seeing some of your writing.

Welcome! I'm originally from Manheim PA, just next door to you, but haven't lived there since 1988. Home for me is now a LONG way away in New Zealand. I blog about food and rural life, and started taking my writing seriously to write a seasonal gardening/cooking book. That was about 7 years ago. I still haven't written that book, though I've published 11 others--mostly fantasy novels. Nice to have you about the colony--maybe with another food writer around, I'll be motivated to actually finish mine. :)

Hi Brian,
I'm new here as well. And I was born and raised just south of York. My sister actually lives near Lancaster.
