• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

I actually came here for the food and wine. Many years later I know I was right to come; yet while bringing up a family and commuting into Paris something got lost along the way: writing. I know some people fire up their computers at 5 am, others toil until midnight. I salute you, but I needed my sleep.

It is only now that I’ve started what chronologically has to be my first novel. I did a lot of reading on my three-hour commute: historical novels, family sagas, entire collections of Ken Follett, all of Joanna Trollope’s observant and compassionate stories. Then, if the day had been particularly obnoxious, there was always a Georgette Heyer to skim through and savour like a sweet melting in the mouth.

I would of course like to publish my novel, but I’ve learned that often the journey has unique charm so I’m delighted to travel as part of your warm and welcoming group.

Welcome Jeannette! I know what you mean -- I spent 25 years in France raising a family and then began commuting from Lyon to Geneva for work; now they're all grown and we've moved to Switzerland. Love Joanna Trollope! You're in the right place: this is a great group for honing your craft and getting that draft into marketable shape.

A very warm welcome, Jeanette.

Nice to have you here. Hope you enjoy Litopia and do get involved as soon as you’re ready.

This is a good place to check out (How-to guide) to see a lot of what goes on in the colony.

If anything is unclear do please contact me and I’ll be happy to assist if I can.

Hi Jeanette!

I just joined, too, and noticed you are in France. You've stirred up fond memories in me of Paris, where I lived for three years in the mid-70s, so long ago, but I remember it so well. It was such a wonderful experience. Sometimes I can hardly believe I actually called Paris home!

And I'm with you; I'd go anywhere for good food and wine!

Hi Jeanette, I'm new as well and am finding this to be a fabulously friendly, safe place to hang out with other writers and share your goals, words, and struggles. Welcome! :D

Now, what I want to know is, are you the Jeanette that I actually know?? Welcome!

Yay, I'm glad you are here! Litopia is awesome. The people are delightful, kind, knowledgeable and FUN! Agent Pete is god-like, gorgeous, delightful, kind, knowledgeable and fun. The various sections offer great resources.
Have fun, explore and learn. And as I said on the market in Lodeve, here in Litopia there is none of the sense of competition between writers that you get in other groups; just a lovely sense of solidarity and support.
