• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

(Well, maybe not "beautiful", but it's where I am.)

I'm Eric, and I live in Bergenfield with a lazy dog, two loud birds, and a remarkably patient wife. We're a few miles from the George Washington Bridge and New York City, where I worked until earlier this year. I left my Wall Street job as a computer programmer to focus on writing. The "day job" is work from home (yay!), where I write technical blogs via a content agency. I also do some freelance writing and course design.

I recently finished a draft of a science fiction novel, and am starting revisions. I'm looking for feedback and to learn about the ins and out of finding an agent, self-publishing, finding an editor, etc.

Other than writing, my hobbies are reading and cycling. I try to get in 100 miles of riding a week and have already done a few adventure cycling trips this year. I have one more in the U.S this September, and am planning a trip in Germany next year.

I'll read just about any science fiction or fantasy I can get my hands on.

Bienvenue and greetings from Switzerland! There are certainly many breathtaking places to cycle near Lucerne if you're in the area. I am also blessed with a patient partner who puts up with my writing life (perhaps because it gives him an excuse to go cycling or skiing...). And I'm also a freelance writer, mostly in the medical science and healthcare field, struggling to take my draft WiP to the next level. Nice to have you aboard!

Welcome Eric.

It’s extremely friendly round here so do feel free to get involved as soon as you’re ready.

Here's a good place to check out (How-to guide) to see a lot of what goes on in the colony.

If anything is unclear do please contact me and I’ll be happy to assist if I can.

hello @egoebelbecker and welcome! As you've seen, we're definitely a friendly bunch here. I'm sure you'll fit right in. Good luck with the revisions – there are lots of fantasy and sci-fi writers here and we all know about doing rewrites. :) Once you get to know the place, check out the Workshops and Pop-Ups. I look forward to seeing you around the Colony!

Welcome! Looking forward to reading your work. I always enjoy a bit of science fiction. Germany is a fun place, I'm an American who decided to stay in Germany. Hit me up if you want any travel tips.
