• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

I subscribe to a number of writers' blogs, including one written by the daughter of a close friend. For many years, she's been struggling to get recognition as a writer, having articles and short stories published by small independents and online magazines.

Like many of us, she was torn between self-publishing and going the traditional route, by attaining the services of a literary agent. After scores of rejections, she sought help on querying from a writer she admires, Ronlyn Domingue. She used her advice and has just been offered representation.

This author recently started an Editing Services business, which proves that even successful writers need a regular income. It's a well-presented site and she comes across as modest, open and approachable.

On the 'For Writers' section, there's a link to a downloadable PDF titled 'Writers' File'. It's only 345.1kb and is well-worth a look, as it offers succinct and accurate opinions about the business of writing—including websites and advice books.

She strongly recommends joining a writing community—which we have—the best one, The Colony! :)
