• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

I’ve raced through my stack of books and need some recommendations! My preferred genre is novels: recent favorites that I highly recommend are Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, Sing Unburied Sing by Jesmyn Ward, and Spill Simmer Falter Wither by Sara Baume. All three of these use language beautifully and create rich and detailed natural landscapes, as well as feature characters who view the world slightly differently from most but are still relatable.

I'm a voracious reader devouring about 350 books a year, 300 of which are novels. You'll find my favourites in a couple of old threads:

I've previously mentioned my favourite novel of this year a few times, and I think you'd enjoy Amanda Coplin's The Orchardist. I'm currently enjoying Michelle Paver's Wakenhyrst, which has one of the most atmospheric openings I've read, laden with dread.

Happy reading!

Thanks so much for this Paul—look forward to perusing your lists! I thought I was a voracious reader, but almost a book a day—wow!!
