• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

Our local RWA (Romance Writers of America) chapter has a Facebook writing support group, and someone posted this gem yesterday. Filter words weaken our writing, and produce the effect of distancing the reader from our characters.

I'm guilty of lapsing into using filter words when I'm trying to push a story to the end, and am paying more attention to getting in the word count for the day as opposed to crafting the story.

This applies to writing any novel, not only romance, so I hope it helps. :)
