Craft Chat No Title At All

A long time ago, I was talking to a history writer and author of many books - all with great titles. I asked him how he came up with them and he told me that none of his proposals had titles. What I never did was ask him how he pulled that off. Is there anybody doing that today? How could you?

Thought for the Day All the books we own....

All the books we own, both read and unread, are the fullest expression of self we have at our disposal. ... But with each passing year, and with each whimsical purchase, our libraries become more and more able to articulate who we are, whether we read the books or not. Nick Hornby

Electronic books are a bad thing because they cannot be accumulated on shelves to remind you of your past, to impress your neighbours and colleagues, and to help prevent divorces thanks to the sheer bother of arguing over who owns what. J. P. Donleavy

News Women over 45 buy books-who knew

Women over 45 love books – it's time the book trade loved them back COMMENTMAY 24, 2022BY HARRIET EVANS Patronised, pigeonholed and ignored, women over 45 are buoying up book sales but are rarely consulted or celebrated in publishing. I wasn’t surprised last week at a literary festival when...

    Self-Publishing Amazing hardback books

Hi all, I keep seeing authors on X showing off (rightfully so) their amazing hardback books. They have fantastic artwork, embossed covers, gilded pages... The whole nine. How do they do that? What are the steps to making such a work of art? You can't do anything like that with KDP. I know my...

Blog Post: It’s Not the End of the World

New blog post by Claire G – discussions in this thread, please --- Well, it sort of is… I’ve been fascinated by dystopian fiction for many years – any story which explores a dramatic change in the way of life for a society, if not humanity (which can of course cross into the post-apocalyptic...

Thought for the Day Books are....

Books are frozen voices, in the same way that musical scores are frozen music. The score is a way of transmitting the music to someone who can play it, releasing it into the air where it can once more be heard. And the black alphabet marks on the page represent words that were once spoken, if...

    Books you love

I’ve raced through my stack of books and need some recommendations! My preferred genre is novels: recent favorites that I highly recommend are Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, Sing Unburied Sing by Jesmyn Ward, and Spill Simmer Falter Wither by Sara Baume.
