Hello everyone.

My name's Mike and I'm an Aspiring Writer. I've been doing this on an off for a while now but in the very near future and going to be blessed with some extra time for a while. I intend to make the most of it.

Anyway, I think the expected/normal approach here is to introduce one's self, build some relationships and then pluck up the courage to submit to Pop-Up Submissions. Well, I've kind of done things the other way around (well, I do write about time travel!). I was very grateful to @AgentPete spending a chunk of his time reviewing the first part of my first manuscript (Phoebe Fortune and the Pre-destination Paradox) yesterday. It was a great experience and really helpful to get insights into the agent process. Thank you! BTW, I was in the chatroom but was being a little shy...wasn't getting my haircut!

Anyway, I'm here it introduce myself so I'll shamelessly cut 'n' paste what I sent to @AgentPete as it appeared to trigger a little chuckle...or was that pity?

I'm an almost-40, mid-life crisis denying, Marketing Manager for a technology company. In my spare time I'm a geocacher and father of two (not in priority order - honest). Oh, and yes, also an aspiring writer. My first novel about Phoebe Fortune was written initially for my children. Their encouragement and constructive criticism has led to many refinements and 34,000 fewer words than they had to endure.

Working in technology, the thought that technological progress is almost always fleeting and often destructive to history, plays on my mind. My first of three planned novels extrapolates that thought in a very literal sense. It tells the adventure of a time travelling girl and a future technology that, in greedy and neglectful hands, could lead to the very tearing up of the past.

Looking forward to getting involved in what looks to be a great community. I hope to both help and be helped.

Thank you for listening.

Mike (or Michael...I don't really mind)

Hello and welcome! I went geocaching for the first time a couple of months ago! So much fun but some of them are really hard to find and others looked very suspicious when I did find them!!!

Welcome to the group. Geocaching. I sometimes join a work collague on her outings. Much fun: ditches to fall into, trees to climb, farmers to run away from. It's like being a kid again. Happy searching. And happy writing.

Thanks for the nice welcome. Yeah, they can be tricky but, as with anything (like writing!) they get easier with experience. To date I've managed 2,513 which is nothing compared to many. Good fun and usually takes me to some inspiring places.

Yeah, never stopped being a kid really. Struggle to take too much too seriously. A little obsessed of late as I'm trying to find one a day for a year (just done day 91). It's a hobby that lends itself well to obsession! A good trait, right? Wellwhen focussed on something healthy...like writing. The germ of my first MS came from a Geocaching trip to an old abandoned, long forgotten graveyard. I'd recommend it to any one looking for inspiring places on their doorstep.

Erm, the graveyard or the geocaching? Just kidding. Walking and thinking are the perfect combination. Last summer, I was out walking, when some bloke gave me a cucumber for no reason. (All very innocent - so no need to have him arrested) Still, it was weird and fodder for writing.

Ha! I clearly need to work on removing ambiguity from my writing! Weird, unexpected and intriguing; perfect page-turning story fodder. Reminds me of the one about the person with the lettuce on a lead...!

I'm assuming by 'Collie' you mean a dog? Or is 'Collie' an abreviation for cauliflower? (I'm Swiss and get linguistically confused)
Ah, another lesson learned, i.e. to know one's audience. British puns don't work so well. Apologies. It's supposed to be funny, i.e. it's a lettuce on a lead but, yes, it turns out to be a Collie (which is an abbreviation of cauliflower) but no joke is good if it need to be explained this much!

It certainly made me smile. Humour always has a place. I suspect you have a talent for comedic writing? I hope so. I shall look forward to future salad, and not salad related posts.
