• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Hello everyone! I'm Ys. I'm a writer/author from South Florida. Excited to be here. I've been writing for a long while now, but I finally decided to start sharing my work publicly last year. I look forward to connecting with other writers and learning. I self-published my first novel last November, and am now editing my next one, which I finished last year and am also working on my next WIP. I like to write literary, character-driven stories that span different genres, from historical to speculative fantasy/fiction. Thanks for having me!

Hi Ys,

Nice to meet you. Hope you're finding your way around.

Thanks for signing up to the Directory of Critters and getting stuck in with critiquing already. Any questions about the Lab, let me know. I hope we get to read some of your work in there soon.

Rachel :)

Hi

It’s lovely to meet you and I look forward to hearing more about your work.

It sounds like our work may have some similarities. I have written a time-slip mystery set locally to me and have had invaluable feedback from both the Lab and the Huddle (you’ll need to be a full member to join the Hudde).

I’ve learned such a lot from leaving feedback for others too, just as much as receiving it and everybody is really lovely and incredibly generous with their time and knowledge.

Clare x

Welcome to the group! What were your two novels, and what is your next WIP?

Hallo Joan! My first novel was an epistolary-style novel set in 1935 East Prussia called The Strange Mercy of Listening. My next novel (currently in edit/beta reading) is a speculative fiction fantasy/light sci-fi called Even if the Light Forgets, and my current WIP novel is called If Not Heaven and is a historical, character-driven romance/drama set in 1908 Germany. :)

Cool! My WIP is in NYC from 1902-1915. I'm up to 1905 but already at 100k words. So I'm reviewing this "Part One", and hope to have it ready for beta readers soon.
How did you get interested in Germany?
