• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

Greetings!

First, I'd like to admit I am a bit of an introvert who finds joining in terrifying (like many writers, I'm sure). I've considered joining a writing group but never took the plunge. Litopia seems like a very inviting and helpful community, and I especially love the pop-up submissions show!

My name is Janae Lawrence - born and raised in the desert of America, Arizona. I am 27 years old and have loved writing and storytelling since I was 10. Dark science fiction/ fantasy is my favorite genre. I also like to write poetry and might self-publish a collection someday.

Currently, I am drafting a character-driven, speculative fiction horror novel - hopefully, it won't eat me alive before I've finished.

Thanks!

I like the concept of the story eating the author alive. Reminds me of Edgar Allan Poe. Welcome and I look forward to reading your stories. Welcome and I look forward to reading your stories. Everything I write is character driven. I love technology. Apple does a great job of transcribing speech to text.

You might consider starting an introverts corner under Groups. The Social Interest Groups are Agent Pete's plan for encouraging like-minded support groups to form. There are a number of others who don't enjoy the rough and tumble, but need a quieter waters. You could give them a place to coalesce. There are probably more fantasy and SF writers on here than other genre's.

Sign me up for anything introverted and a pass to quieter waters... but this is a lot to ask of a new member. I assumed writers were introverted. Maybe not. Maybe I will start a group and let @Janae get on with her life.

Anyone have thoughts on this?

I know several others who would eventually gather in a slower eddy of the stream. Well done Peyton.

You're very welcome to the colony, @Janae

Nice to have you here. Hope you enjoy Litopia and do get involved as soon as you’re ready to. There are plenty of fantasy writers here :)

This is a good place to check out (How-to guide) to see a lot of what goes on in the colony.

If anything is unclear do please contact me and I’ll be happy to assist if I can.
