My name is Christa and I live in the state of FL in the US. I've been writing for about 15 years, most of that time was with a small writer's group.

I'm currently working on a paranormal mystery. I also have a rough draft of the first book in an epic fantasy completed and 'percolating.' My goal is the have the first draft of the mystery completed by September. I will wait to submit anything for review until then. In the meantime, I hope to contribute critiques to other writers and make some friends along the way.

Paranormal women fiction is a coming thing. I see the gathering. I hadn't been in touch with Swiss friends for awhile. She is an opera singer-but not many roles for women over 50. Guess what she's doing now? Yes, writing fantasy novels.

Paranormal women fiction is a coming thing. I see the gathering. I hadn't been in touch with Swiss friends for awhile. She is an opera singer-but not many roles for women over 50. Guess what she's doing now? Yes, writing fantasy novels.

Must be a thing for women over 50 (I'm 54)

My oldest son likes to hear about my writing ideas and try to give me ideas for plot lines, but he has voiced his confusion/lack of understanding for why none of the main characters in my two current WIPs are male. I also don't write romance, so the male characters that do appear in my books are not love interests. I like to think there's a market for paranormal mysteries that are headed by a group of woman and romance not only isn't a focus, but is rarely mentioned. We'll see if I'm right.

My oldest son likes to hear about my writing ideas and try to give me ideas for plot lines, but he has voiced his confusion/lack of understanding for why none of the main characters in my two current WIPs are male. I also don't write romance, so the male characters that do appear in my books are not love interests. I like to think there's a market for paranormal mysteries that are headed by a group of woman and romance not only isn't a focus, but is rarely mentioned. We'll see if I'm right.

Perhaps, tell him about the Bechdel test? There is a hunky boyfriend in my WIP, but he's there for a specific purpose. I suppose so are the other men. They provide dead bodies. My 3 protagonists are women, 2 older, one younger and they are caught in a web cast by the hidden world of fairies in Wexford, Ireland-my antagonists. I have a feeling we are part of an emerging genre that women over 50 want to read. We're all instinctively writing for those readers. I call it Harry Potter for over 50's who plan to never get old. Our readers.

I'd be a reader, I'm not keen on romance. It's spoiled many a good plot.

We write what we want to read. All my lead characters are gay. There are plenty of cis characters, but they don't have lead roles. And I don't write romance. If any person complains about it, I'll just welcome them to my world.

Stacey, I do think you need to get a babysitter and go out and dance cupid's fandango somewhere.. The song is essentially come on sexy baby, shake your bacon fat for me. German old lady dance troupe that reinvented belly dancing. German women have a sense of humour. I also recently learned that Dionysian rites persisted in parts of Germany til the 16th, 17th century. So the Walpurgis legends have some basis in reality. Amazon product ASIN 125027141X. I think partly women over 50 don't exist to publishers. If statistics prove that we do exist, the young women and old men in publishing have decided we want to live vicariously in stories about young women doing fun stuff.
