If she could give me a list of the literary agents she's talking about, it could be very useful. That has not always been my experience. At all.

Apparently there is a divide. In Britain happy endings are twee. In the US they are mandatory.

I respect a happy or at least hopeful ending. I mainly re-write endings for my self that end dismally. I do also respect a tragic ending well written. I don't often come across them though.
