• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Weird Mates

Toby lived in a shed, with a stoat.
Mel and Kate bought a derelict castle.
Claire sleeps out on the moor, with pet sheep.
Barefoot Sal says shoes are a Hassle.
Jo was a homeopathic vet.
Not sure how that worked; didn’t ask her.
Pod was a banker who jacked it all in,
Bought a big van and drove to Alaska.
Clive dressed like an Edwardian gent,
In tweeds, flat cap, braces, spats.
Romy had a weed farm in her loft.
Sally has thirty-seven cats.
Jed wrote a bestselling book on ants.
Steve has a full-size whisky still.
Dora blockaded a nuclear base.
Pat, Bex and five pals squatted a mill.
Paul housed ten asylum seekers,
By doing up an empty barn.
Jan has a massive fear of cows.
Ash spins nettles into yarn.
Luke named his baby Zephaniah.
Bel named her kid, Aloysius.
Karl juggles chainsaws and flaming hoops.
Eva eats snails and says they’re delicious.
Now, in case you think I’m playing games.
These mates are all real; I’ve just changed the names.
