• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Hi all. I've been hovering on the edge for a while and decided it was time to dip my toe in. Hoping there aren't any crocodiles. :)

I write YA and MG novels with a fantasy element. I've had some small successes with long listings for them and my short stories. Had a handful of the shorts accepted into anthologies, but am still in search of that elusive agent. Currently wrestling a new project - a dystopian YA dealing with prejudice and inequality.

I read a lot of YA as research (and pleasure). Current favourites are A Good Girls Guide to Murder and The Hate U Give. But I'll read most genres. Favourite books in the last year are Natasha Pulley's The Watchmaker of Filigree Street duology.

One thing I've learned about writing is the importance of getting feedback and good critique partners. Gold dust.

Hello Kate, and welcome,
I totally agree with you about the good feedback thing, and you’ll be able to give and receive plenty of that here.
Am also MG fantasy, so look forward to seeing your work. Xxxx VH

Hi Kate, Welcome aboard. We are all friendly and supportive here. Critiquing is a way forward - it improves your writing and helps others with theirs. Hope to see you in a Huddle or join in on Pop Up submissions.
