I personally love archaic, unknown words. But I don't use them in my writing. Half the time when I'm talking to my husband or best friend (both big readers), they won't know a word that I use. These aren't obscure words, really, just little-used. In America (where I am), at least, the sad truth is that we have small vocabularies, and using the really good words puts us off.

It's horrible, but true. I hope it's not so bad in other countries.
