1645950840547.png Found this. Drawn by my dad when he was 17, of the publisher Victor Gollancz (long before my dad ever came to the UK), and funnily enough, it was Gollancz who gave him his first start in publishing (sort of). What actually happened is that VG offered my dad a job. So dad quit his job at Shell and duly turned up at the publisher's offices on the appointed day. Unfortunately, VG had forgotten he'd offered him the job and in the meantime had given the post to his own daughter. VG felt so bad, that he let dad go in every day to use the office to look for another publishing job (use of phone, etc). Every day, dad would 'go to work'. He didn't tell my mother until much later on after he'd found another job.
