• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Hi All;
My name is Don Parent. I am a 100% Disabled Vietnam Veteran.
I work with Veterans all over the world.
My book “The Warzone PTSD Survivors Guide” is the culmination of years of work and research trying to heal me from problems with PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and dealing with the VA.
My wife of 50 years has PTSD by Contact from dealing with my Cranky butt.
Veterans need things to fill their time. They need to get out in the light and stay busy.
Hobbies are a good thing. I try to teach by example.
I play guitar, cartoon, and write other books such as my YA Fantasy Series:
"The Lézard Family Chronicles". I am working on the third book in the series.
Please feel free to contact me.

Thanks, Katie and James for the welcome notes.
The staying busy info has really come home to roost. Many Veterans become workaholics to keep from thinking about war. They may end up with multiple marriages, drinking issues, but as long as they could go to work they faked it well.
Now the Older Vets are retiring and the proverbial crap is hitting the fan. With too much time they are being hit with flashbacks for the first time. They are drinking more and doing drugs.
In my book, I wrote that the VA believes that PTSD stands for "Please Take Some Drugs". Sticking band-aids on PTSD causes more bleeding in the long run.
Writing is fantastic Therapy. Hopefully, I can get more Vets involved.
Don

Welcome Don. Great to see you and hope even if you don't find answers that you find fulfilment in everything you are doing.

See you around the colony.
