I came across this Hyperallergic article on cartoonist Grant Snider's new book The Shape of Ideas.

He explores the nature of inspiration, and I smiled at a couple of the cartoons—recognising my own thought processes.

When I was thirteen my mother told me I was built like a brick shithouse.

I figured out what that was about a decade later.
 
Aspiration comes early in the day. A scribble here, a scribble there, it flows and the masterpiece of a pure genius first page smiles back from the previous blank sheet. Best seller on the way... oh yes. Mmm, Perhaps a change here, that word isn't quite right. Don't like that sentence, comma there? Ridiculous. Sit back, think ... maybe wrong tense, possibly first person ... no, it's not right, doesn't work, flows like blocked sink, look at it ... total rubbish ... bloody hell where's that bin?!
