The next time you are attending a dinner party and it begins to be tedious here's a thought-provoking idea. Just turn to any musicians or multi-media artists at the table and tell them that "Writing is the highest form of art." (I am sure you can think of reasons why.)

Do people even have dinner parties anymore? Either way, I'll be sure to raise the subject over my next take away or shish kebab :p

The chair of the art history department at my university does. She's very, VERY classy.

My friends and my husband and I sometimes have dinner at each others' houses, but we're not classy. We just throw food on the table and fight for it. Winner gets the beer.

When I go for a kebab, usually every 2 months so I can have time to forget the experience, I usually say to the Kebab Maister, "I'l have that, that, yes and some of that, but I donna wan any sauce" ??? do you get it? donna wan...Sadly my stand up comedy career never took off.

Haha, or just say you're writing a novel! Can almost guarantee every other person will either also be writing a novel, planning on one day writing a novel, or knows someone who is writing a novel.

I don't know what I was hoping for when I image searched "writers" but among all the usual stereotypical tortured writer pictures I found this:
writers-block.jpg

I think next time I struggle with the next sentence I'll think of this for a laugh!

Apocryphal? Don't know who the author was, doing a book signing. Someone came up with a copy he wanted signing and told her, he was a doctor. When he retired he was going to write a novel. She said when she retired, she was going to study medicine and become a doctor.

Maybe this is a funnier scenario in the New York City area. If you are in an artistic crowd in New York, and claim that writing is the highest form of art, you will create an amusing uproar. The artistic types here (including my brother and sister), are hard-core and aggressive. Saying that YOUR art is superior the THEIR art will invite an immediate attack.

I bet that could be entertaining. Shame it's not such a big thing over here in the U.K. Well not among us common folk :p
