• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Ha, I've actually been to two of them! Polare in Maastricht and the one in Porto :)

Wow, lucky you! Are they as nice as in the photos? The Porto one looks nice enough to live in. Love the staircase!

Polare is a special experience. It's inside a (former) church, but the railings and metal podiums give it a bit of urban atmosphere. There is a great selection of books, both new and second-hand. Livraria Lello was a bit of a disappointing. The picture we saw in the City Guide was similar to the one in the link- in reality, its not so spectacular. The stairs (there is a rumor that they were the inspiration for Hogwarts after J.K.Rowling visited the place) are quite short, actually. The books were also a let-down. I really wanted to buy something (there were plenty of tourists that came just for sight-seeing, without any intention to buy a book), but there was nothing reasonable to choose from! Still, it was a nice experience :)

I would live in Livraria Lello, in Portugal.
Which would be funny because I don't speak Portuguese.
