• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

I'm looking for books to read that have good examples of Father/daughter relationships, moral dilemmas; the boundaries between doing the right thing and doing the legal thing (not always the same).
Stories that look at the parental dilemma when they find their child is guilty of a crime, and/or stories which discuss whether illegal actions are justified in the face of a serious existential threat.

All suggestions are welcome. Thank you in advance.

But that isn't available to read, is it?
Only to exclusive readers... I dont know if it would be of any use to you. My model was Antigone. But I dont tell agents that. These are exactly the themes I was writing about though. You're welcome to read it. I am still - and always will be- working on it. I'd be interested in your view of course. But no I cant think of any other books that speficially addresses these themes with a father daughter dynamic. If yu are looking for comps...Cant think of any in any genre. Which is interesting. Auston's books generally feature a father-daughter relationship because the mother is awful. I suppose Pride and Prejudice?

I'd be honoured to read it if you'd let me. email: caldecottrachel60@gmail.com

Not sure if it counts because the older figure is an aunt not a father, and the two lovers are cousins, but Therese Raquin is choc-full of passion and familial moral dilemma... and guilt and (arguably) retribution...
