• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Poetry OUT THERE IN THE WOODS by Hannah Faoileán

The World Between the Words
He sits at his desk; he is scratching his head
that he can't leave alone since he got out of bed.
His mind's in a turbine, his thoughts in a whirl.
Out there in the woods there's a girl.

A smile in the office, a whisper, "hello."
He answers politely; his heart tells him no.
She stands; she comes over; she offers her time
and tea, he looks stressed, but he says he is fine.
She says, "If you need me." She touches a curl.

Out there in the woods there's a girl.

A girl. A new life. Should he dare to be mad?
Is this chance of being great worth the risk of being sad?
Is this mountain too high? Should he just step aside?
Should he jump off this cliff or remain here and hide?
Should he capture this chance, let a future unfurl?
Out there in the woods there's a girl.

He stares at the clock. The time's running slow.
There's a meeting ahead, and he knows he must go.
He catches a glance, her smile shines like a pearl.

Out there in the woods there's a girl.
