• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Hi Everyone!

I am a new member and I just created a New Workshop for my short story La Résistance. I am trying to learn how to write Lit. Fiction (e.g. Michael Ondaatje, Rohinton Mistry kind of writing). I am not sure if I'm allowed to create a workshop so soon after joining, so if I have made a mistake in doing so, please let me know, and I'll delete the workshop. If it's okay that I've created a workshop, the link to it is here: https://colony.litopia.com/threads/short-story-just-not-sure-if-this-is-going-well.8629/.

In the workshop, I would like to know the following:

1). Is this story clear? Are there points where readers might get lost, confused?
2). Is the point I am trying to make, the idea I am trying to communicate, coming through?
3). What's not working in this piece? Why, if you were the editor of a literary journal, would you reject it?
4). Is the story even interesting? Did you enjoy it? If not, what didn't work for you and why?

The story's word count is 1,636.

Thank you & best!

Kris
