• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

...what captures the vibe of your current or most recent work? I've found a music break with evocative songs (preferably while on a walk) to be helpful in that "marathon of the middle." It helps me hold steady and maintain atmosphere and tone. Or, at least, I like to think it does.

For me, it's "Believer" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (yeah, yeah, yeah--they still make music), Right Thing by Bayonne, and Stumbling Still by Nation of Language.

Sidenote: my five year old does not like the unsettling "Believer." He says it's "too creepy."

Hi @RedSquiggle

I love this idea.

I listen to music when I write, and songs come into my head whenever I think about my WIP.

But then I am writing about musicians and singers so it shouldn't be surprising.

The chapters I am working on at the moment have a Golden Years Bowie vibe so strong that almost every line of the song feels relevant.

Never look back, walk tall, act fine is my main character's drive right now.
