• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence
    • Don't take offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

Thought for the Day I discovered that....

I read Henderson the Rain King when I was about 18 because all the literary crowd was gaga over Bellow. I remember being moved by it-but dont remember a thing about the story.

I agree and disagree. I think this moment has to come when you have learned the rules well enough to break them like an artist. Writers who dont care about readers and just want to write their souls-are usually pretty boring. Esp if they haven't much life experience and catharsis from their own lives.
