• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence
    • Don't take offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

Whoooosh! So that was 2024... and as time waits for no one, it's now 2025.

So Saturday sees our weekly Writers' Huddle return to the schedule, and at the bottom of this post, you will find a link to the Huddle Hangout Forum.

If you wish to be included in this week's session, then simply post your name below (in this thread) with an optional message along the lines of (Yes please. Count me in... You betcha... etc.)

When you add your name, you will be included in the Private Group in the Huddle Hangout. Then, when you click the link below, to take you to the Hangout, you just select the post with the relevant date, wherein the Zoom Meeting Link will found in the first post of that group thread. :) Please note, when added to the group you should also receive a notification. So you now have two ways of getting to the session on the day.

This sign up thread will be posted here every week.

It's @AgentPete 's intention is to hold a Huddle
every Saturday. The only exception to this might be unforeseen circumstances. Should that ever be the case a post informing The Colony will appear here in Cafe Life.

If you've not attended one before - what happens in Huddles?

Put simply, every week when the Private Group thread goes live (normally Thursday AM - UK time) you can post work for @AgentPeteand fellow Huddlers to offer critique and suggestions on. These submissions can be anything - from the opening pages of your work in progress, to a blurb, synopsis or query letter. Nothing is out of bounds. General questions on the publishing industry are encouraged and if you spot something you feel is worth sharing with the group, then that's also welcomed.

So don't be shy, there's no pressure and you don't need to submit work. You can simply attend just to watch and listen or help with the critique. The atmosphere is completely relaxed and there is anyways lots of fun.

Hi Brian

I'm posting it in the meeting thread for you. Then will delete it here as this is a public forum.

I'm just waiting for a meeting link from Pete.

@BrianY

Happy 2025, everyone. I will likely have to work late this saturday so i doubt i'll make it, but am off the following saturday, and am therefore planning to be extra sparkly to make up for missing this one. Enjoy, all. xxx

Welcome @RadioGirl63

I have added you to the Zoom group. You'll find the link in the first post with tomorrow's date in this forum.

Meeting opens around 4.30pm for general chat and to test connections and kicks off properly at 5.00pm
And by 4:30pm. he means in England. It's 5:30 pm for those of us in Berlin. It's something very different to those in New Zealand, but I can't do that math
