How can I find out how many books a UK independent actually sells?

Besides looking at the books listed on their website and randomly checking against Amazon, which will give a reviewer rating and a publisher numerical ranking (or so I'm told) – how else can I find if they actually move many books??

I may try finding some of the authors to ask if they would recommend, but I'd say the chances of that working are slight.

Any other suggestions welcome.

Someone who called himself The Data Guy used to compile this, back in 2015 when I wrote a column about self-publishing. No idea if he is still around.
