• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Hello, fellow writers!

I'm Steph - I'm from small-town Nebraska, and I have always loved a good story. Reading is a favorite pastime of mine, and writing has always been a beloved hobby, even if I've never done anything official with what I've written.

This month, I'm participating in Novel Month, alongside my middle school students, and am feeling very enthusiastic about possibly publishing this particular effort. I've done NaNoWriMo in the past, but this is the first work I want to see all the way through. I'm looking for a community of writers who will support me, talk me through the process, share their own experiences, and mentor me along the journey. :)

I'm working on a historical fiction piece about the Holodomor in Ukraine in the 1920's/30's - I've learned a lot about the event so far!!
I bet that's a lot of work on the research but rewarding too.
I wrote historical fiction but from the latter half of the 20th century, which I imagine is easier to research. Even so, I've found myself absorbed for hours out of which might come only a tiny reference in the writing, but getting those period details right is so satisfying.
I hope it's going well:)
