• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

Hello, Litopians. I love words, so I'm glad to be here.

I live in DC now, but I also spent ten years in Latin America and eight in the Middle East. I'm a recovering professor of strategy with an incurable habit of writing military science fiction. My first novel was featured on Pop-Up Submissions earlier this month and my second is written and ready for the kind of perceptive critiques that The Colony offers. Advising Master's theses and working as an editor for a think tank has also taught me that I love giving critiques and helping others tell their stories.

As for food and drink, I teetotal (so, mostly water, but occasionally milk) and I love waffles on Sunday mornings. And I'll eat Mexican food any time of day or night.

Hi Nathan, nice to meet you. Sounds like you've had an interesting journey so far.

mostly water,
Ah, a fellow water addict. Are you a hot water drinker too? I love a cup of boiled water, much to the amusement of others.

Waffles? NICE. What's your topping of choice? (When I visited Bruges, I had waffles topped with vanilla ice cream and strawberries and chocolate sauce. Oh my. I might just go back there.)

Enjoy your time here. You'll see, we like to talk food as well as writing.

Any questions, just shout.

Hello, @Nathan Toronto and welcome! Glad to see you here, I'm sure you'll fit right in. We're a mixed bunch but very friendly.

Head over to the Workshops and dive in. As you've obviously learned, giving critiques helps us just as much as getting them. If you have any questions, please shout. Happy to help any time.

Btw, I prefer ice-cold water, and yes @Vagabond Heart, with lemon :)

Hi @Nathan Toronto

You’ve come to the right place. We’re all about writing here and getting / giving critiques on your work and those of others is one of the main things that Litopia does.

You'll find the relevant forum here. Workshops So don't be shy and feel free to dive straight in.

Anything you're not sure about on the site just drop me a line and I'll be happy to help.

This link might come in handy to help you navigate your way around the colony. How-to Guide
