• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

A few days ago, a writer I know, with shallow pockets like mine, had her self-published print book proofed. When she received the proof, the cover looked horrid, and she didn't know what to do. Her budget had already been drained to produce the book itself. I offered her a few tips and realized that there are probably quite a few of my friends and colleagues who could stand to know a bit more about the arcane world of graphics and imaging files. To that end, I've posted a relatively short primer and checklist for Do-It-Yourself cover designers, on my site. Here's the link, but please feel free to ask me any questions you might have about the nuts and bolts of publishing graphics.
