I love distractions but I wouldn't put all the blame on social media; if you enjoy it, there's nothing more profitable for you in terms of distractions. But distractions come from all sources, pets, coffee, gardening, music, sunshine, friends and so on and so on and so on. Distractions will always be there, if you want them, what I must do is turn my back on them, as Gloria Gaynor says in "I will survive", you must do with distractions as with unwanted lovers...

"Now go, walk out the door, just turn around now, you're not welcomed anymore..."

Open-plan offices = the worst concept of all time

Yep, open-plan offices are a major distraction. Sometimes in a good way (when it's quiet). But when I'm busy, it can be difficult to tune everything out.

Luckily, we're allowed to wear headphones at my office. Often I don't have any music going, instead, they serve to drown out the radio and the hubbub. But I've heard of places where people are not allowed to wear headphones as it's seen as anti-social. How they get work done, I do not know.
