It's been a couple of years since we discussed what makes us cry in a book, and if we've written any tear-jerkers ourselves.

I've just enjoyed a compilation of sad poetry, called Poems That Make Grown Women Cry, edited by Anthony and Ben Holden. A father and son team, they previously had success with a similar anthology called Poems That Make Grown Men Cry.

Poems That Make Grown Men Cry

I was familiar with many of the chosen poems, including verse from the Great War, and was moved by some written by the parent or child of the person who chose them. I was unexpectedly touched by a short love poem written by Harold Pinter for his wife Antonia Fraser:

For A

I shall miss you so much when I'm dead,

The loveliest of smiles,

The softness of your body in our bed.

My everlasting bride,

Remember that when I am dead,

You are forever alive in my heart and in my head.

What makes you grab the tissues?
