Ah, Peter Ustinov was Chancellor of Durham University way back when. He shook my hand when I graduated and handed me a fake paper scroll.
I think he might have been right about comedy; it's a serious business.

I saw him live in Hong Kong and he was a childhood favourite in movies like Topkapi. My husband shared my liking but with an extra twist. Ustinov had a crazy mixed up childhood where he started off preferring to be a car. Perhaps because he had to learn Russian, German, French and English all before he was 6. My husband was in a similar fix with Urdu, German, English and Swiss German. Ustinov could find that core of truth that makes you laugh thru your tears.
