• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Poetry Beware the Mania

The World Between the Words
Beware the Mania

Beware the mania

rabid wolf of the mind

dressed up like inspiration

bearing gifts of false vigour and strength

It will have you believing

you do something great

will trick you to thinking

your thoughts are revelations

Beware the mania

rabid murderer of peace

masquerading now as genius

fuelling weak flesh with motivation

With no other goal

but to dash you to pieces

while it whispers its promises

of unrealised achievements

Don’t believe it

pay no mind

guard yourself against seduction

Just go to sleep or close your eyes

Be still now, just be still

Beware the mania

diseased stowaway of the mind

It sees no reason

hears no logic

is the enemy of order

Even scorned and ignored

it is a danger to you still

because the teeth come out

and claws extend

His rage is lit

it won’t back down

nor give you peace

or let you go

it cannot yield

it won’t give up

it doesn’t stop

nor will concede

you cannot beat it

just give up

it’s out for blood

yes!

after you

Beware I said

The mania

Alas, it got me too
