• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Apropos of scatalogical etymology (yes, uh-huh) during Sunday's Pop Up Submission, we had a fresh peek at the word KERFUFFLE,

Meaning: Commotion, fuss, controversy.

Origins

Ker/Car Gaelic meaning twisted/bent.
Fuffle, 16C English for an uproar. The Gaelic prefix was added sometime early nineteenth century.

Plenty of public kerfuffles going on at present, but this painting appealed as an artistic interpretation of a kerfuffle in progress: Thor smashing the place up with his hammer Mjolnir, in battle with the Giants. The goat looks none too happy either. If there is such a thing as a scapegoat, is there also such a thing as a non-escaped goat?

I'll get my coat.

Artist Marten Eskil Winge
1825-1896 (Swedish)

That's one mighty kerfuffle. I've always imagined them as being somewhat fluffier. Stick Thor in a knitted cardy and replace Mjolnir with a teapot, that kind of thing.
