This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

So these past months, I've been up to my eyeballs in selfpublishing wisdom from a variety of sources but I'm still none-the-wiser.
One very helpful chap (David Gaughran) talks about the importance of formating and having a subscription box at the end of the book.

I have a kindle from the noughties... How, in the ever loving h*ck, do you put such a thing in an ebook?
I didn't even know this was a thing. I favour physical books, so I rarely see it in the things that I read.

Litopians that have successfully self pubbed a book, lend me your wisdom.
...
please.

I self published one. Not sure it was a success (total sales just shy of 1,000) or an abject failure, but I read on Kindle almost exclusively (it's just easier to get English language books electronically, and the storage is a massive plus) and I can say I've seen those things a lot, never clicked through.

Are they at the end of the book?
Can you click straight from your e-reader? I'm so behind on this tech.

They can be at the beginning (after the title and copyright page, often before the acknowledgements page, and occasionally in or after the 'other works by this author' page), or at the end.
The important question about a subscription box: do you have the subscriber email that the sub box links to?

I'm in the middle of setting it all up at the moment.
I have a website built on Wix. I've bought a domain name on namecheap.com.
I've got an author page on FB and a twitter account (Though I probably won't use that to hauk books)
Just trying to weave them all together.

I'm at the point of getting my book ready for formatting.
But I guess from your question that I'll need to set up the mailing/subscriber list before I do that?

As @CageSage said, beginning or end. It's just a weblink like you see everywhere. Just paste your webpage address (found in the browser address bar). I hope that makes sense! If in doubt, ask Youtube.

Keep your eyes out for this month's Craft Chat, it might have some interesting nuggets for you...

I have not and so will not. The term subscription box is ambiguous. Does he mean a box of books that you ship to subscribers every month? That is a common meaning of the term, but inapplicable here. Perhaps he means a checkbox so readers can subscribe to your newsletter? He's a nice guy. Why don't you ask him?
