• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence
    • Don't take offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

A popular author is one who writes what the people think. Genius invites them to think something else.
Ambrose Bierce

I don't think the word genius is relevant to writers. Not all good writers have a higher than average IQ. What they do have is a gift for empathy and bringing it out in readers.

I didn't take him to mean writers have to be geniuses, but "it is genius to invite readers to think something else." Writers don't need to be geniuses to do this, but it is genius to do it. Maybe I'm being too kind (he does look pompous enough!), but that's how I can glean use out of the above quote :)
