Feeling sorry for himself and quite scared. He just turned 71 and his dad died at 73 from a stroke. But this was a mini one, but there is some scarring on the brain, so more tests tomorrow. But our car's broken down so I had to get a friend to come and fetch me (an hour each way), and he has no phone with him. So tomorrow will be logistically interesting. Knackered now
Oh Rachel, that's hard for you. I won't wish you luck – it seems too trite for something so important. But I wish you and your husband well. Sending you love and hope you manage to get some sleep.
Recovery is possible. I had a mini-stroke in 1995, after what had been the most stressful year of my life in which I lost everything. After-effects included problems writing when I'd miss out letters without realising it. I improved this by copying out tedious non-fiction works, including car workshop manuals.
Depression creeps up on stroke survivors, so be watchful for that. I lost four years of my life to depression, which might have been shorter had I asked to see a counsellor.
Pills we can live with! Thanks for telling me this.
