Feeling sorry for himself and quite scared. He just turned 71 and his dad died at 73 from a stroke. But this was a mini one, but there is some scarring on the brain, so more tests tomorrow. But our car's broken down so I had to get a friend to come and fetch me (an hour each way), and he has no phone with him. So tomorrow will be logistically interesting. Knackered now

I take it he's still in hospital? Prob the best place for him right now. Hope you can get some rest.

Oh Rachel, that's hard for you. I won't wish you luck – it seems too trite for something so important. But I wish you and your husband well. Sending you love and hope you manage to get some sleep.

Yeah I think he's OK. There is some scarring or damage to the brain. But as I told the neurologist, I wasn't even sure he had a brain to begin with...

Recovery is possible. I had a mini-stroke in 1995, after what had been the most stressful year of my life in which I lost everything. After-effects included problems writing when I'd miss out letters without realising it. I improved this by copying out tedious non-fiction works, including car workshop manuals.

Depression creeps up on stroke survivors, so be watchful for that. I lost four years of my life to depression, which might have been shorter had I asked to see a counsellor.

He's depressed anyway. But yes I'll keep extra vigilant
Thanks

My wife suffered a minor stroke three years ago. Fortunately, she is fine but she is on pills for the rest of her life.
