• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Who reads fantasy and science fiction? SFF reader research

It's no wonder women are more into sci-fi and fantasy today than in the past. So many modern sci-fi and fantasy books include cultures far more egalitarian and female-led than we experience in real life. It's a pleasure to dive into those worlds.

Its good to know that the numbers of fellow female SF and science geeks is on the increase. An interest in SF generally goes hand in hand with an interest in STEM subjects. Certainly for me it was reading SF that made me follow a career in science! I think that's true for many people.

Now all we need is for mainstream publishers and agents to catch up and embrace it. All too often I see 'No SF' in submission guidelines!
