• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

I thought I'd share with you this little experience.

I was first published (small press) in 2010. Then I went to another publisher in 2012 for my second book which they accepted. But now my rights have reverted back to me.

What do you do with a rights-return book? I'm not sure but I don't think other publishers would be interested so I've decided to self publish it.

Five, ten years ago I'd NEVER have said I'd self-publish. But, you know what? It took me a day yesterday fiddling about with Kindle Direct and getting a cover sorted. It was so easy! I paid very little for the stock photo I used for the cover and lo and behold today my book is spanking new on Amazon.

I can decide on the pricing (I've got a 99p campaign coming up soon). They advise on advertising and marketing. I'm very very happy to have control over my book, but let's see how it pans out. Let's see if I sell more than I did when it was published. I also can't get over the 70% royalties I'm going to get.
