• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

The organisers' more specific definition of what material would be eligible is:
We are accepting crime, thriller, mystery and suspense fiction. If the entry fits into one or more of those categories, it is eligible.
The earlier description (see first story, below) was 'all types of novel with “criminal intent”, from “psychological thrillers, cosy crime to serial killer thrillers”.'

To recap: the £3,500 prize is open to un-agented debut writers, over 18, born in and/or resident in the UK and Ireland. Entry form and rules at: Criminal Lines | AM Heath Literary Agents

Submissions should include the opening 5,000 words, and a synopsis of no more than 1,000 words. The manuscript does not have to be finished. The competition opens 3 August 2023 and closes 7 December 2023.
