thestorygraph.com is the book discovery and review site I mentioned in the Huddle today. I found it on BlueSky. What better place to find an Ammie/Goodreads alternative than on a Xitter alternative, right?
So why would anyone need something other than the big two?
1. Formatting options. Neither Ammie nor Goodreads allow even italics. StoryGraph does.
2. Amazon search sucks. Their own preferences often dilute the results.
3. Goodreads' dated and buggy interface. There's been little development since...
4. Ammie acquired them. Bezos doesn't like competition, so he allows Goodreads to wither.
I think StoryGraph is the future - even if the future needs some work. It's a slow on my tablet, and the UI isn't so intuitive.
However, the search options are pretty deep. If you're looking for a new or quirky read/listen, you're more likely to find it here than on a compromised Amazon or buggy Goodreads.
Adding and reviewing books is easy. Here's an example...

Just make sure when you add a book to their database to do it right the first time. I haven't seen any options to edit book info once entered. I think you have to contact StoryGraph to fix any errors. Conversely, any book reviews you post can be edited or deleted by you at any time.
If you're published (self or otherwise), I strongly recommend looking up your works on StoryGraph. If you can't find them, add them. It would be interesting to know if this new platform will drive sales.
If you're a reader, do your favorite authors a large and review their work on StoryGraph in addition to the big two.
There's an option to contribute USD5/month or USD50/year to the platform. This gives you some added functionality and an inside line to feature requests. If I ever did this, I'd ask them to add "self-published" to the search filter. Gotta support indies !
