• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Hello!
I wasn't sure whether to post this here, because I've barely been on the Colony since 'Joe with an E' (which you might remember from an episode of Pop-up Submissions) came out in June. That said, I've barely had time to do any new writing either, having increased my teaching hours at school this year. But having written the sequel to Joe with an E ages before it was published, I have been able to get it polished and to my publisher in time to get it out this month - probably a good thing because lots of people who've read Joe with an E have been asking for the sequel. One 'flaw' of Joe with an E is that I can't really say (as you're supposed to with your debut) that it is 'a standalone novel with series potential'. Series potential, yes. Standalone, no. It finishes with too many loose ends. I'm hoping it will end up being a smart move from a commercial point of view because anyone who's read Joe with an E will 'have to' buy the sequel.
So if you're interested, 'Them and Us' is out on 12th December - next Thursday - and I'm having an online launch via Zoom at 7 pm UK time, where I'm being interviewed about both my books by fellow author, Ruth Estevez (go to https://buytickets.at/paulrandwriter for FREE tickets, despite what the URL says).
My website is Paul Rand – Writer – author of Joe with an E, if you want to know more.
Alternatively, if this is just very rude of me, since I've not been on here for a long time, and this is just shameful self-publicity, please feel free to ignore me. And moderators, do delete this post if you don't like me doing this.

Hi Paul and congratulations!! Sounds like a gripping story and if I wasn't road tripping in west Ireland next week I'd totally attend your launch party next Thursday. Break a leg!
