• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

I know, thinks me. I'll email people on Goodreads who do a lot of reviews. I'll offer to send them a copy of my book.
"Please do not contact people and ask them to read your book. Our reviewers consider this spam and you will be blocked."

Okay. better not try that.

Hang on, thinks me, again. How about local readers groups? googlegooglegoogle...

"Please do not abuse our email facilities by sending us promotional material."

Okay. Better not try that.

Honestly, I never knew it would be so difficult to give shit away.

Yes, even if spamming is not your intention, seeking reviews from the wrong places isn't likely to earn you reviews. It's more likely to earn you a rep as an author who spams people with promo. :)

Try a Google search for review blogs or something similar instead. Here's the first thing that came up when I did a search for those. Hope it helps to give you a place to start.

Good call. Time to get busy, thanks....

Not yet - contact for the reading group is through Kirklees Council, which have an anti-spam warning as well. I might just go and join and wait my turn with recommendations.

That's odd. Waltham Forest council libraries were keen once i tweeted to them regarding games and book. All councils ideally should be as encouraging.

How about approaching local schools? At the very least they are highly unlikely to have an anti-spam warning on their websites...
I've been back to my old school - had a great time running a flash fiction workshop. Going back in the new year to hand out prizes to the winners. (Wonder what the prizes could be......?)
