• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Just had a reminder about this award, might be of interest?

The deadline for entries to the 2020 RSL Giles St Aubyn Awards for Non-Fiction is approaching.

Three awards are available – one of £10,000, one of £5,000 and one of £2,500 – offered to support writers in completing their debut non-fiction work, for which they already have a publisher’s contract. The awards were established in 2017 in order to celebrate gifted new authors and provide funds to help complete their work, by allowing for time to write and carry out research.

Judges this year are Damian Le Bas, Ramita Navai and Fiona St Aubyn. Visit their website to read about previous winners.

The Awards are open for submissions until Friday 31 July . Details on eligibility and full submission guidelines can be found on the website.
